How do you pack everything you need, without packing (literally) everything you HAVE? How do you make sure your shampoo doesn’t end up all over your clothes? What’s the best way to pack to have room for everything? Don’t worry, I’m sharing my favorite packing hacks so you can look and feel your best on every trip!
Cover ALL of your liquids with plastic wrap under the cap
Don’t risk ruining your nice things by packing them inside the suitcase with hastily stored liquids! I always take extra precautions with mine by wrapping a small piece of plastic wrap over the top of the container before screwing the cap on. I also place the container inside a plastic travel sleeve, and place the sleeve inside another plastic bag. (Can you tell I’ve had more than one issue with leaky liquids in the past?!)
Pack around your hats
It’s pretty simple to pack even the most obnoxious floppy beach hat when you pack AROUND it. What I mean is this – pack one layer of your suitcase, then place the hat upside down on top of that layer. You will have extra space around the hat (and IN the hat!) to pack items like rolled socks/underwear/tanks/etc. PLUS it helps maintain the shape of your hat for your trip.
Plan your travel wardrobe
I can envision it now. You’re stressed. You’re trying to make your flight to finally leave on a much-needed vacation. You’re still pulling stuff out of shopping bags and packing them directly into your suitcase the night before you leave. Seriously, who has time to plan their wardrobe?? You do, my friend.
And here’s why it’s better than throwing a bunch of random items into your suitcase: you’ll only take what you’ll actually WEAR/USE. Novel concept, right? Nothing is more frustrating than lugging back a heavy suitcase from vacation and less than half of what you packed hasn’t been worn.
Take some time and plan your outfits in advance!! Items that you can wear more than once to create different looks are the BEST to travel with. I use a photo app like Photo Collage to create a layout of my outfit/shoes/accessories for each major event while traveling. Doing so gives a good idea of what I’m going to throw on when I’m there. Who wants to spend time on vacation trying on 14 different things before you can head out for dinner after a long day of exploring? Not this girl, and neither do youY

Roll your clothes AND put them in packing cubes
No doubt you’ve heard this one over and over, but it’s legit – rolling your clothes will make them take up much less space in your suitcase! Take it one step further by using these travel cubes for ease of organization/dressing on your trip! I organize my outfits in packing cubes either by day/event and/or by item type (pants in one cube, dresses in one cube). Both ways work really well.
Figure out which works best for you so when you need that strapless bra to wear with your dress, you know exactly which cube it’s in without having to trash your entire suitcase to find it.

Pack a few dryer sachets in your luggage
Even when I pack all freshly washed laundry, I feel like my clothes still stale right out of the suitcase. Couple that with the fact that your clothes are packed with shoes (and sometimes hardly-worn items), and you can be left with some clean items that don’t smell that way! I heard this great packing tip years ago and use it every time I travel. I always put a great-smelling dryer sachet in each compartment of my suitcase. It makes a HUGE difference. There are so many great ones, but these smell like pure luxury. I love unpacking my clothes when they smell so decadent!
Invest in GOOD, quality luggage with comfort features.
If you’re still wheeling around a $30, tattered, nylon suitcase without rotating wheels that your grandma bought you in college, it’s time for an upgrade. I swear it makes my trip to start off amazing by having stylish, quality luggage. I don’t have to hassle with faulty wheels/zippers/compartments while I’m hustling through airports! Go ahead and get it monogrammed while you’re at it! It makes picking out your luggage from the carousel that much easier, too. (Bonus tip – don’t get luggage with a built-in phone charger! They become too much of a hassle getting through security.)
Pack your own pillowcase
By now, we ALL know the benefits of sleeping on soft, silky/satin-or similar high quality pillowcases. They’re the best thing for keeping your skin wrinkle-free, your hair de-frizzed, AND they help protect your lashes and prevent breakouts. When you travel without it, you’re putting yourself at the mercy of whatever thread count, face-creasing nonsense the hotel happens to have. And trust me, it’s not always good.
A pillowcase takes up very little space. When sprayed with your favorite linen spray right before packing it (OR when packed right next to your dryer sachet), it can be the perfect little comfort of home you need to get a great night’s sleep.
